The Islamic international trade finance course provides a detailed overview of Islamic international trade financing and the risks associated with it. The course covers all of the various types of letters of credit that are utilised by Islamic financial institutions, whether it uses the underlying contract of Murabahah, Musharakah or Ijarah Muntahia Bittamleek, including its mechanisms and calculation. The course gives insight on Islamic trade finance operations, enabling them to differentiate between the conventional and Islamic approaches while appreciating the strenghts of Islamic trade finance. This course will also discuss the relationship between treasury functions as well as legal aspects of Islamic trade financing.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the Islamic concepts and techniques relevant to issuing a letter of credit
- Describe the significance of Islamic trade finance operations
- Discuss the various international trade finance products used in Islamic financial institutions
- Examine the key risks in a trading transaction and provide a solution on their mitigation, which includes compliance with UCP rules
- Identify the required shipping documents under the Islamic mode of finance such as the Murabahah letter of credit
- Explain the treasury implications and legal aspects of Islamic trade financing
Target Audience
This course is for inpiduals who would like an in-depth understanding of trade finance from the point of view of Islamic finance. This may include but not be limited to: credit and marketing officers, operational risk oficers, staff working in credit administration, officers and staff working in banking operations, auditors and internal control officer, any inpidual whose work is related to trade finance, and inpiduals whose banks are about to establish an Islamic window or convert to an Islamic bank.
