Course details
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the metaphor of a 'spectrum' of autistic disorders, including the classifications of this disorder. The student will be introduced to the assessment and diagnostic processes used in ASD; the principles of inclusion for people with ASD; the impact of Legislation on the Development of services for People with ASD. Furthermore students will be introduced to current educational & therapeutic approaches used to support people with autism and current research and evidence based interventions in the area of ASD.
Blended Learning (elearning and College attendance).
Course work & participation in on-line discussions
Examples of coursework include essays; literature reviews; development of posters; portfolios; group presentations.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants will normally:
- Be a registered nurse on the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
OR
- Be registered on the appropriate professional register.
AND
- Be currently employed in health care either in: clinical practice/management/ research /education. Some modules may only be undertaken while working in a specific related area. This is specified in module descriptions.
