Course details

The Arts, Culture and History students of Dún Laoghaire Further Education Institute who researched, wrote and published ‘Ten Notable People in Dún Laoghaire’, presented the first copies to DLR Lexicon, Local Studies Librarian, Nigel Curtin (third left). The eight panel full colour pamphlet includes, brief biographies and photos of the James Bond Film producer, the Wimbledon tennis champion, the Celtic artist, the Fenian Member of Parliament and the silent film director. A location map is also included. ‘Ten Notable People in Dún Laoghaire’ is available from DLR Libraries.

Many learners look upon this course as an excellent foundation course for the bachelor of Arts Degree in UCD, NUI Maynooth and other Universities. This course enables learners to develop an in-depth knowledge of archaeology, local history and folklore. learners also gain knowledge of the cultural richness of modern Europe while at the same time developing modern media skills in the areas of research, journalism, organisation and communications. learners may also gain employment in areas such as Heritage, Tourism, Library Services, community Information Services and other areas of the Information Society.

Special Features

Learners take part in a number of day field trips to various heritage and cultural sites during their course of study. This could include visits to the National Museum of Ireland, Royal Society of Antiquaries, GAA Museum, Department of Archaeology UCD, Print Museum, European Parliament, Casino of Marino, etc.
