Kinsale College Art course offers students an excellent opportunity to assemble a portfolio of work, which they may use to gain access to diploma/degree courses. It is a wonderful course to discover Arts in a nice and relaxed atmosphere.
Students pursuing this course have obtained some of the best results in the country. On completion of this course students will have a large portfolio of work suitable for applying for places in any of the 3rd level art institutions in Ireland, the U.K. and Europe. Former students attend and have graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Galway School of Art, IADT Dun Laoghaire, and the Crawford School of Art in Cork.
Students will be able to discover Drawing, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Combined Materials, Design Skills and Art Appreciation. Within each module teachers will lead students to discover new techniques and experiment in order to create personal art works.

HOW TO APPLY & APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Applications for all our courses will be available on the website and in the college from 1st week in January 2014 for all courses commencing in September 2014. Interviews will be held for all courses later in the year generally in May/June. To apply, simply download an application form and forward to the College.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the course go onto to become independent artists or to gain trainee places in art, craft and design, or related areas.
Further Studies Opportunities
Students who successfully complete the Level 5 Award in Art will be eligible to apply for the Level 6 Award.
This course is linked to Fine Art CR220 in CIT through the CCPS. Students will be required to present a portfolio. Students pursuing this course have obtained some of the best results in the country. Painting
The painting course covers different media (oil painting, watercolours, acrylic, alternative materials etc.) and techniques, to enable students to experience colours in their variety and give support to their own art research. Guided classes alternate with less formal ones to favour free expression.
Drawing
The drawing course introduces students to charcoal, pencil, pastel, inks and a range of alternative materials in a variety fun modern techniques training the eye to see. Drawing is observing the shapes and things that surround us but also investigating, thinking and developing ideas through experimentation and imagination.
Combined Materials
Combined materials offers students the chance to learn many textile techniques such as felting, batik, paper-making and weaving. On this course students will learn how to manipulate and mix varied materials to create a totally original art piece.
Printed Textiles
Printed textiles involves silkscreen painting, block printing and painting on fabric. On this course the student learns how to use dyes with an emphasis on design, texture and colour.
Sculpture
The student will be taught a variety of techniques, including clay, plaster ,wire, and encouraged in the use of unusual materials. There is an emphasis on original ideas and design.
Photography
This course offers the student a chance to learn and develop photography skills. From basic understanding to how camera works to more complex darkroom techniques. There will also be modules on digital photography and the history and social importance of photography.
