Course details

This intensive 1 year, full-time programme offers a foundation in Art and Design portfolio preparation with an emphasis on Graphic Design. Learners use a variety of media within the area of Art and Design, combining traditional skills and new computer technologies in a creative environment. Industry standard computer software is used. This programme can lead to Advanced Art (Level 6) and can also lead to further studies at third level colleges in Ireland and abroad.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have Leaving Certificate, LCA or equivalent.

Holders of a QQI Level 4 Award are also eligible to apply.

Mature learners (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements.

Places on the programme are limited and will be allocated on the basis of a personal interview and a selection of applicant’s own work. N.B. Applicants are advised to bring samples of their work to the interview.

Employment/Progression Opportunities

Holders of this qualification take up places in Third Level Colleges and Institutes of Technology. NCAD, DIT, Crawford Art College and Art Colleges abroad.

Institutes of Technology and other Colleges around the country will be offering opportunities for further studies.

LCFE learners applying for LC110/LC518 at LIT may avail of additional bonus points.

About Limerick College of Further Education

Limerick College of Further Education is a long-established, state-funded and administered further education college. It is one of many centres of education run by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board. LCFE was known until 2008 as Limerick Senior College.

LCFE offers Further Education (Post Leaving Certificate) programmes and Professional qualifications in a variety of disciplines and caters for approximately 1200 full-time and 3000 part-time learners. Its campuses are situated in the South-East of the city on Mulgrave Street (a short distance from the city centre) and also in East Limerick at Cappamore.
