Course details
Operated in conjunction with SOLAS (FÁS), each course is of . The aim of this course is to equip apprentices with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary to work to the highest standard in this trade. Carpenters and Joiners are required to prepare, build and install a wide range of wood products including doors, windows, floors, walls, staircases and roof trusses. On completion of the full SOLAS (FÁS) National Craft Certificate, opportunities are available for advancement. These include advanced technological and management courses, which are available in the Institutes of Technology, Schools of Management, and the Professional Institutes. Apprentices are also eligible to fill supervisory or technical positions in the construction industry.
Entry Requirements
- To become an apprentice and participate in the Apprenticeship Training Scheme, applicants must be registered with SOLAS (FÁS)
- To become a registered apprentice, individuals must first find employment with a company. The company then registers the individual with SOLAS (FÁS)
- As a registered apprentice, SOLAS (FÁS) allocates the learner to a college such as DFEi to complete Phases 4 and 6 of the training

Certification
SOLAS (FÁS) National Craft Certificate (following completion of Phase 7, onthe- job training while working with an employer). Only holders of a National Craft Certificate can be registered as qualified craftspersons.
