Applied Psychology and Social Studies

Course details

This course is suitable for students who are interested in studying Psychology or Sociology at third level or for those who wish to obtain employment in the caring professions, or those interested in studying individual or group behaviour.

This one year course is designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding of all aspects of social issues in our world today.

Work Expereince

One day per week and two weeks block .

Work In

Public and Voluntary Sector in the areas of residential care, older people, juvenile, justice and family support services.

• Community Development Worker
• Youth Worker
• Project Worker with specific target groups such as the homeless, youth persionprogrammes, alcohol/drug
• dependency units

Further Study

Holders of a FETAC award at Level 5 may apply for degree courses in Institutes of Technology and Universities. Successful graduates can progress to Psychology, Arts,Social Science in UCC and Social Care in CIT and WIT and a range of other courses. This course will provide learners with the skills to find employment in a social care setting.

Note: This course requires participants to be Garda vetted. Continued participation on the course and work placement is dependent on the successful completion

of this process.
