Applied Child & Adolescent Development

Course details

The Applied Child & Adolescent Development course is designed for persons from the fields of psychology, social work, education, sociology, nursing, biological sciences who want to work with children (birth through 18 years) or are already working with children and now want to upscale their knowledge, understanding and skills. There is no upper age limit, the minimum age for candidates is 21 years.

Working with children is not "child's play", unintentionally, many of the things we do with children may actually be "disabling". What it is that makes children the way they are? Would we feel more equipped to interact with children if we understood why no two children are the same? Would it make our jobs as professionals easier if we understand the various perspectives related to the way they develop.

Here's a course that will help you understand how children grow, think, feel. It will also enable you to create an enriched environment within the context of your own work or home setting that is developmentally appropriate with reference to the child's needs.

Entry Requirements

• Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. There are no previous academic requirements. Candidates must be 21 years or over.

• Understand major theoretical perspectives related to the development of children
• Discuss variations in individual developmental pathways
• Develop skills in developing resilience in children
• Identify principles of development based on the theoretical perspectives
• Apply theoretical understanding and develop skills in developing and designing content of suitable intervention programs for children.
