Course details
These courses are designed to equip the learner with the skills and knowledge to work in a variety of areas within the Animal Care Sector or to progress to Higher Education through the Higher Education Links Scheme. Learners study core areas of Animal Care and are enabled to put theory into practice through the use of a fully equipped Animal room and their participation in work experience. These courses are delivered by teachers including specialists who bring a real depth of experience to their teaching. Over the course of study learners are given the opportunity to handle a wide variety of animals.
Entry Requirements (Year 1)
- Leaving Certificate/LCVP
- Leaving Certificate Applied
- Relevant Level 4 QQI Award
- Mature Applicants are welcome
As there is an emphasis on the science subjects Biology, Animal Anatomy and Physiology, a background in science would be desirable but not essential.

- Applications are welcome from learners with relevant experience in this area

Learners complete six weeks’ work placement: five weeks’ in a Veterinary Practice and one weeks’ compulsory residential course in an agricultural college (to gain large farm animal experience). The cost of the residential course is included in the course fees.
