Course details
The Djembe drum from West-Africa is today the most popular hand played drum world-wide. The tight skin of the Djembe allows a wide spectrum of pleasant sounds.
Playing rhythms on African drums is a lot of fun right from the start and everybody can do it!
This workshop will feature:
- Playing technique of Djembe Drums,
Bass Drums and small percussions.
- learning West-African rhythms
- feeling pulse and rhythm
- Playing together as a group (poly-rhythms)
- Cultural background
- Ritual drumming
The workshops is suitable for people of all backgrounds and ages, who are either total beginners or drummers who have not drummed for too long yet.
Drums will be provided or you can bring your own.
Facilitated by Thomas Wiegandt, who is an experienced and patient teacher.
You can inpidually arrange sessions or workshops for yourself or a group for a time that suits you.
Workshops can take place either here in Ballydehob or in a venue of your choice.
African Drumming Workshops (Advanced)
This workshop is for people who already have some drumming experience.
This workshop will feature:
- Playing poly-rhythms or interlocking patterns in a group on Djembe, Bass Drums and small percussions.
- feeling and understanding the rhythm
- playing solo parts and breaks
- improvisation skills
Drums will be provided or you can bring your own.
