Course details

The Purpose of AED CPR course is to teach Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) skills for the lay rescuer and first responder.

The course is multimedia based with practical instruction from qualified Irish Heart Foundation Instructors.

Typical Audience:

• Lay rescuers who require a formal qualification in CPR & AED.
• Anybody interested in saving a life
• Care facilities wishing to have an AED on their premises.

Automated External Defibrillator is a computerised device, which can:

• Analyse the heart rhythm of a person in cardiac arrest.
• Recognise a shockable rhythm.
• Advise the operator whether the rhythm should be shocked.
• Save many Lives, if used within minutes of an arrest.

Facts about the AED:

• Today the new generation of defibrillators AED’s make it possible for trained lay rescuers to deliver defibrillation.
• Having lay rescuers equipped with AED’s in settings where large numbers of people congregate saves precious minutes and improves survival rates for cardiac arrest victims. It can increase survival rates to as high as 50%
• Facilities such as large office complexes, gated communities, sports arenas, concert halls, can benefit from obtaining AED’s and training employees to use them as part of a public access defibrillation program (PAD)
• The Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association strongly encourages establishing a PAD program as an important way to save lives of thousands of cardiac victims.
