Course details

This curriculum builds on the competencies acquired on the first year of the Film, TV and Video course. It allows the candidate to develop and capitalise on their professional technical training enabling them to realise their creative potential. Subsequently, candidates identify, develop and learn how to market themselves and their skills within the industry and to communicate effectively with industry professionals.

It emphasizes the visual storytelling aspects of both film and digital media. Candidates begin to work with super 16mm film and the full range of multi format digital cameras. The experience of the film, TV and video production process in state of the art facilities gives the student an insight into the market demands of the film industry. Students who successfully complete Level 6 Award may progress to do a final degree year in the area in Sunderland University.

Entry Requirements

  • FETAC Level 5 award: TV and Film Production or equivalent
  • Students applying from other institutes may be given credit for prior learning on courses similar in vocational nature.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate a visual acuity and a Level 5 competence in their show reel i.e. Basic Studio E.N.G and camera technique, basic editing technique, photography. They should also have completed a documentary studio interview.

Progression

  • Students may apply to a range of Higher Education Links schemes i.e. students who successfully gain their level 6 certification on this course are considered as applicants to the final year of the degree programme in TV and Video in Sunderland University.
