    Course details

This 1.5 year course focuses on contemporary popular and jazz performance as well as specific music industry knowledge and theoretical units with strong practical base. Study in the course will enhance your individual and group performance skills, musicianship, stagecraft, music technology, songwriting and knowledge about the music industry. Interacting with others studying music business and audio, students will have the opportunity to learn and record in our state of the art recording studios. Taught by industry experts, learners will network with other musicians to produce events and gigs preparing for a career as a performer, songwriter, band leader, recording artist or further study. Learners may apply to study the final 6 months concurrently with subjects from the Bachelor of Applied Music Performance or Composition streams and, upon successful completion of the Advanced Diploma, students will be eligible for advanced standing. This course incorporates the 1 year Diploma of Music.

The Institute hosts special high profile music industry guests on a regular basis. In 2013, music students were treated to the only workshop presented in Australia from the famous jazz guitarist and his band Mike Stern who was out for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival – for more details. In 2014, we have had presentations from alumni and now professional musicians Helen Croome (aka Gossling), Ryan Meeking and Lucas Taranto (bass player for Gotye). See our music facebook page for further details. We also had a weekend bass extravaganza including renown bass clinician, Andy Irvine.
