Course details

This computer systems engineering course is designed to give you advanced skills in managing computers and computer networks.

You will develop practical skills in computer maintenance, operating systems, network configuration and maintenance, interface design and internet working technologies.

You will learn how to develop complex testing and evaluation features and diagnose faults in advanced systems and design and implement system security processes and risk management frameworks.

You will also learn how to provide technical leadership in the workplace and gain training in the following vendor certifications; Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO), Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices (ICND), Wireless LAN for Field Engineers and Cisco Call Manager (CCNA Voice, Wireless and Security). You will also study (Linux+, and Net+), Microsoft (Certified Professional (MCP) Systems Administrator (MCSA), Linux Administration, and VMware VCP.

This qualification can be studied in conjunction with the Diploma of Information Technology Networking and the Diploma of Information Technology Systems Administration. 

Entrance requirements

Australian Year 12 or equivalent with a pass, however relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English language proficiency

A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic). A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for Internet based.

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to coordinate and administer, as an independent information and communications technology (ICT) specialist or as part of a team, the installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of a range of networks, enterprise servers and systems, including internetworking, security and e-business solutions.

What further study options will I have?

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of Computer Systems fields at diploma level. The qualification has a strong core Computer Systems base sharing the same core competencies as several other IT qualifications of the same level. Depending on the stream chosen, this qualification offers pathways into a number of IT qualifications at advanced diploma and degree level.

Students can choose to study dual qualifications similtaneously, thus graduating with an Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Technology and a Diploma of Information Technology Networking.

Students who successfully complete an Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering who wish to progress into an Associate Degree in Computer Systems or Bachelor of Computer Systems will receive credit for 7 subjects or the equivalent of 1.75 semesters duration.
