PROGRAM OBJECTIVEThe participants will be taught the knowledge that will enhance their decision making skills and their ability to carry out duties more effectively and efficiently in the challenging business world of today In addition, the course aims to impart the essential knowledge and pre-requisites needed for the participants to pursue a formal undergraduate education in Business Management.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE This programme is intensive and demanding in its requirements. It is important to note that the programme design expects students to undertake their studies on a completely full-time basis. Students are expected to attend lectures at least 5 times a week. Lectures are held between Mondays and Saturdays.MODULE CURICULUM
ENGLISH COMPOSITION II
English Composition II provides instruction and practice in the writing formal, analytical essays, atleast one of which is a research project using outside sources and/or reference effectively and legally. Additionally, English Composition II provides instruction in the development of analytical and critical reading skills in the composition process. English Composition II may include instruction and practice in library usage.
AMERICAN HISTORY SINCE 1865
This course is a survey of American history from Reconstruction to the Vietnam Era. Our focus will be on social and cultural history, the stories of everyday life, but we will also examine those people who changed the course of history with political, economic, and social power.

INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY
Sociology is the study of human social life. Sociology has many sub-sections of study, ranging from the analysis of conversations to the development of theories to try to understand how the entire world works. This chapter will introduce you to sociology and explain why it is important, how it can change your perspective of the world around you, and give a brief history of the discipline.
PRINCIPLES OF MACROECONOMICS
This course provide the students with an introduction to the basic macroeconomic principles; to enable students to appreciate the workings of real and money markets and the nature of equilibrium in each market; to emphasize the role of macroeconomic policies that affect internal and external deficits, inflation and growth of per capita income. Throughout the course a focus will be on 'critical thinking' to analyze macroeconomic problems.
PRINCIPLES OF MICROECONOMICS
This course provides the students the analytical approach to study of individuals and societies deal with the fundamental problem of scarce resources. This approach is applied to everyday decisions faced by individuals as they try to maximize their utility, to businesses that try to maximize profits and to the whole of society as it attempts to use its resources efficiently.
MONEY AND BANKING
This course provides a framework for studying the role of money in the economy and the institutional characteristics of the banking system and financial markets. Basic economic principles such as supply and demand, the concept of equilibrium, the theory of asset demand, and profit maximization are applied to study the economic analysis of banking and financial institutions.
LEGAL ENVIRONMENT OF BUSINESS
The aim of this unit is to provide a basic knowledge of the local legal system, an understanding of some key private laws, an introduction to the law of agency and an overview of business organisations. On completion of this unit, students will be able to understand the components of the local legal system, the roles played by the courts, the importance of precedent and the rules of statutory interpretation, understanding of law of negligence and contracts amongst other legal terms.
QUANTITATIVE MODELS FOR DECISION MAKING
This course provides the student with the concepts, methods and tools for the application of logical and quantitative analysis to business decision making and problem solving. It familiarizes the student with a wide range of software and other classical and contemporary resources related to decision and problem analysis, including basics of logic and decision making, principles of optimization, probabilistic distributions, linear programming, simplex, queuing and transportation problems, break even analysis, inventory management, forecasting and simulation. The course highlights the benefits as well as the limits of quantitative analysis in a real-world context.
BUSINESS WRITING
This course prepares the student for business writing. Practical strategies for developing a clear writing style: organizing ideas, choosing effective words and composing concise paragraphs that make writing clear and persuasive. This includes letters of inquiry, claim, collection, and adjustment as well as resumes and cover letters. This course requires a written business report and the preparation of a presentation.
CALCULUS I
This is a basic calculus course covering topics needed for physical, life, and social science disciplines. Topics covered include: A review of algebra, limits and continuity, the derivative, computing derivatives, applications of derivatives, the definite integral, anti-derivatives, and the indefinite integral.
CALCULUS II
This calculus course covers topics needed for physical, life, and social science disciplines. Topics covered include: Techniques of integration, applications of integration, sequences and series, Taylor polynomials and series, and differential equations.
INTERMEDIATE METHODS IN STATISTICS
This course introduces the theory and the application of multivariate methods for analyzing social datasets. Applications of the general linear model and cross tabulation are emphasized. The lectures illustrate the key theoretical concepts with real-time, walk-through analyses of data using statistical analysis software.
MODE OF DELIVERY OF COURSE
The course is 100% face-to-face lecture. The course work includes attendance of lectures, discussions of case studies, presentations, completion of group and individual written assignments.ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION
Continuous assessments in the form of case studies, discussions, presentations, group and individual assignments will be made throughout the course. At the end of each semester, candidates must sit for an examination on all the modules taken during the semester.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is monitored regularly. Students must achieve an attendance of 75% and above to be eligible for the end-of semester examinations. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) requires all international students issued with valid Student's Pass to achieve attendance of 90% and above in any month of the course.ADMISSION CRITERIA
Advanced Diploma in Business Management
Diploma in Business Management from Asia Pacific International Academy
Recognised Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent
Recognised Diploma from other institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis
English Language Requirement
GCE 'O' level credit pass in English; or
IELTS with an overall score of at least 5.0; or
TOEFL score of at least 500 (paper-based); or
An equivalent English Language qualification
The Certificate of Business Management is not open for direct application. The selection into the programme is based upon recommendation by the Admissions Office for those who have applied for the Full-time Diploma in Business Management but failed to meet some of its admission requirements.
