Actuaries are in demand the world over. In the modern economic climate, with new risks and the need for ever-more creative ways to deal with them, there are constant opportunities for actuaries. Actuarial science is a relatively new major that could be considered a blend of business and applied mathematics. Students learn to use statistics and computer analysis to predict outcomes and minimize fi nancial risk. Closely related careers also available to those with this degree are financial analysis and investment management. Actuary students should be good in math, computers, and economics. They must be ambitious, independent and rational thinkers who can communicate well.
