Course details
The Accounting Technician course provides learners with knowledge of accounting concepts and principles of accounting together with knowledge and technical skills concerning the tax implications of personal and business transactions. It also provides the learner with an understanding of core Business functions of Management, Marketing and Law. Students will gain an up-to-date knowledge of a modern accounting practice and will qualify as professional Accounting Technicians.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of five passes on ordinary level papers in the Leaving Certificate. These passes must include English and Mathematics or Accountancy. Or
- Four passes of which at least two are on higher level papers. Note: These passes must include English and Mathematics (ordinary level) or Accountancy. Or
- Students with a fully achieved relevant QQI - Level 5 qualification.
- Mature students who have reached 21 years of age but do not possess the minimum educational requirements may still apply to do the course based on age on experience. And
- Personal interview

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES/PROGRESSION
Students will acquire the skills and qualifications necessary to take up employment in the following areas: Assistant Accountant, Accountant, Accounts Administrator, Credit Controller, Stock Controller and Banking. Those who are both interested and suitably qualified may proceed (with exemptions) to qualify as accountants. On completion of Year 2, Students may also upgrade to a Third Year of a Business Degree in Institutes of Technology.
