Course details

The Access Course is a specifically aimed at students who

  • (a) wish to study music at third level but who may not yet have the fully-rounded music education necessary and/or
  • (b) who wish to test their suitability for a career in music.

The course is designed to improve musicianship and technical ability, and develop repertoire, so that the student achieves the necessary standard for entry to a degree or diploma course.

The academic component of the access course is designed to train students whose theoretical education in music may be weak in certain areas. This one year course focuses on acquiring skills in Harmony and counterpoint, history and aural awareness to a level that will be acceptable for third level degrees. A section of the course is devoted to examining past entrance papers to ensure that our Access students will be prepared for an entrance written paper for any music course in Ireland and the UK they may wish to apply for.
