The OET is a test of English used in Healthcare, used around the world to assess the language of doctors wanting to work or study in English-speaking environments. Doctors need to take the OET Medicine Paper.

The OET test for doctors is recognised by a wide range of regulatory healthcare bodies and councils in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Dubai and Namibia. These include the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK, the Medical Council in Ireland, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and the Medical Council of New Zealand.

What grade do I need to achieve?

Internationally trained doctors need a grade B in each of the four papers in OET Medicine - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking - to register in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore.

Grade B is advanced level, equivalent to C1 in the Common European Framework or 7 in the Academic IELTS test. It is not easy and requires training on language, skills and test techniques. However, achieving grade B is a clear indication that a doctor has the right language skills to work safely and effectively in an English-speaking environment.
