Having skilled and professional managers who understand how to effectively and efficiently manage their buildings and services is a critical success factor for many businesses and organisations in the modern world. As a result, Facilities Management has become one of the fastest growing professions in the UK.
The Level 5 Diploma offers a specialist management qualification for individuals working at middle or senior management level within the field of facilities management. Applicants are expected to hold a position where they are responsible for specialised and complex functions within their organisation.
This management level qualification is both nationally and professionally recognised and offers flexibility to meet the needs of a diverse workforce.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum entry requirements
- Any relevant Scottish Group Award at SCQF level 7; OR
- An SVQ at SCQF level 7 in a relevant area; OR
- Combinations of relevant and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies; OR
- Relevant work experience.

- Managing Information and Knowledge in Facilities Management.

- Managing Relationships with Suppliers and Specialists in Facilities Management.
- Organisational and Facilities Management Strategy.
- Risk Management in Facilities Management.
- Space Management for Facilities Management.
- Managing People in Facilities Management.
AFTER THE COURSE
Careers
You will have acquired a range of knowledge and skills relevant to a senior management role within the facilities management sector. It is expected you will utilise this to assist in your career aspirations.
Continuing Study
Students may be able to progress on to qualifications at SCQF level 9.
TEACHING
How the course is taught
The course will be delivered over a 12 month period, starting in late August. The course is delivered via a blended learning approach, which includes a combination of distance learning and intensive workshops and seminars.
Face to face workshops are delivered on a Thursday/Friday every 4 weeks at our City campus.
Assessment methods
As a work-based qualification, the assessment will focus on reflection and experience in the workplace. Assessments will be carried out through a range of methods including case studies, personal reflections, essays and reports.
You will be encouraged to utilise your own experience, using examples from your role within the facilities management sector.

You will be provided with a range of learning materials through the College's learning portal, MyCity. You will also have access to further materials through the City of Glasgow College Library's physical and electronic resources.
