This training provides occupational knowledge and skills in the various techniques in textiles analysis and identification that are widely used in the fashion industry. It covers understanding of the various processes from fiber to finished fabric cum the various spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and finishing processes. This fundamental knowledge helps participant identify potential risks involved in using selected fabric at the different stages of design, production and marketing. In turn, the knowledge and skills will empower the participant the right attitude towards trouble shooting and problem solving in the fashion industry related to textiles limitations
OBJECTIVES
- Describe the processes from yarns to fabric.
- Differentiate between knits and woven, and identify a variety of fabrics.
- Understand the weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and printing processes.
- Comprehend the various types of fabric defects.
- Know the latest in colour evaluation.
- Using the pick glass and fabric cutter to determine the fabric specifications.
- Evaluate the process of garment wet processing and its associated problems.
- Understand the common intrinsic characteristics and problems of certain production processes in textiles, thus providing the platform for problem analysis.
- Enhance troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Be a better informed buyer/purchaser of materials and apparel.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level credit including English and Mathematics or ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Participant will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) provided he/she meets the following requirements:
- 75% attendance rate
- Assessed to be competent in given competency standard
CERTIFICATE ISSUANCE
Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
