تفاصيل الدورة
This course has been awarded 7 CME credit hours by the Department of Health (Abu Dhabi)The use of cardiotocography (CTG) is widely used antenatally and in labour to detect fetal hypoxia. The fetal heart rate (FHR) pattern can be analysed visually by describing the baseline, variability and cyclical changes. In fetal hypoxia, the fetal heart rate increases with a reduction in the baseline variation.
This one-day workshop will enable midwives to review the assessment of fetal wellbeing during labour from an evidence-based and risk management perspective.
Course topics include:
- Principles of Intermittent Auscultation to ensure effective monitoring of low risk pregnancies
- Use of CTG with special clinical situations such as previous caesarean sections, preterm, meconium and oxytocin
- Understanding acid-base balance and the role of additional tests of fetal wellbeing to reduce the false positive rate of CTG
- Principles of ST-Analyser (STAN) to understand how fetal ECG may help improve outcomes
- Pathophysiology of CTG to help understand physiology behind observed 'CTG Patterns'
- Interactive Case Reviews: to help delegates use the knowledge of physiology in CTG Interpretation and to determine fetal response to hypoxic stress
- Risk management strategies to reduce hypoxic injuries in labour ward, including the use of 'intra-uterine resuscitation'
- CTG Guidelines - 'rational application' in clinical practice
- Demonstrate basic interpretation of the CTG, including contraction assessment and FHR assessment
- Understand control of fetal heart rate and the factors that affect the features observed on the Cardiotocograph (CTG)
- Understand the types of intrapartum hypoxia and resultant features observed on CTG trace
