This course has been awarded CME credit hours by the Department of Health (Abu Dhabi)

This two-day course is designed for home-care nurses who care for Peritoneal Dialysis patients. The course comprises two theoretical training days which include four practical sessions on Dialysate preparation, adding medication to bag, hand hygiene and PPE's.

Course topics include:

• Anatomy and physiology
• Physiology of fluid balance
• Principles of Peritoneal Dialysis
• Chronic kidney disease
• Complications of Peritoneal Dialysis
• Infection control in Peritoneal Dialysis
• Transmission-based infections
• Overview of Peritoneal Dialysis fluids
• Nursing care of Peritoneal Dialysis patients
• Adult learning and Peritoneal Dialysis patients
• Training Peritoneal patients successfully

On completion of the course, you should be able to:

• Describe the principles of Peritoneal Dialysis
• Identify early signs of complications of Peritoneal Dialysis
• Describe the treatment of peritonitis in the Peritoneal Dialysis patient
• Explain the process of educating patients to perform Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
• Discuss infection control practices to prevent Peritoneal Dialysis related infections
• Demonstrate competency in hand hygiene, adding medication to Dialysate Bag and donning & doffing gloves and mask
