Developed by Joseph Pilates in the 20th Century, Pilates is similar to Yoga, but emphasises the body's core - the abdomen, obliques, lower back, inner and outer thigh, etc.

Pilates, which was first called "Contrology", is a form of controlled movement, targets core development. It was revolutionary in the sense that it was the first exercise form to combine both Eastern and Western forms of ;It is widely practiced today, both with simple pieces of apparatus such as a ball and mat to more complicated machinery such as the reformer and the electric chair.
 
Pilates develops most of what exercisers need - strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance and good posture.
