It is very common that when a company is charged for tax evasion, one or more directors would also be charged for abetting the tax evasion by the company. Tax evasion is a serious offence that carries with it heavy financial penalties and possible imprisonment. It is therefore important for directors to know what they can get themselves into if their companies evaded tax.
Mr Goh Khee Kuan, previously the Accountant-General and retired Deputy Commissioner (Centralised Services) of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, will cover what constitute tax evasion and the prerequisites for there to be a tax evasion. He will then cover the consequences for a person who is convicted of tax evasion and explain why certain taxpayers were selected for a tax investigation.
The course will cover the following areas:
- What constitutes a tax evasion and its prerequisites.
- Differences between simple and serious tax evasion.
- Consequences of tax evasion conviction.
- The methods of proving unreported income
- The investigation process and why certain taxpayers are targeted.
- An analysis of some past cases
