The candidate will be able to undertake duties of a crane supervisor as defined by the appointed person, complying with legislation, regulation, codes of practice and industrial requirements. To give foundation training and assessment towards the achievement of a construction plants competence scheme (CPCS) trained operator card.

Course content:

• Operating the crane safely
• Responding to recognized crane signals accurately
• Correct positioning of the crane
• Altering jib lengths and associated safety devices
• Routine maintenance and minor adjustments
• Safe load indicators and duties charts
• Chains, slings and lifting gear
• Crane capabilities and safety precautions
• Basic theory of power units, transmission system and control system
• Understanding and interpreting duties charts
• Understanding how to programme safe load indicators
• The effect of radius change  on the safe working capacity
• Statutory regulation and codes of practice application to lifting operations
• Effects of shock loading on structural strength, stability and load displacement
• Principles of safe slinging and the types and capacities of chains, slings and lifting gear
• The correct and safe use of outriggers
• Transport regulation and preparing for ravel on the public highway

Personal selection is critical. The position of crane supervisor carries a great deal of responsibility and only suitable personnel should be selected for this role. A self-profiling form will be sent to you when you book on the course. This form will help you determine your level of knowledge.
