Problem-based Learning (PBL) is a learner-centred approach that focuses on helping learners acquire knowledge, skills and critical thinking ability through a dynamic learning process. The PBL approach aims to enable learners to:

• construct a ready-to-use, flexible knowledge and skill base;
• develop effective reasoning and problem-solving skills;
• develop self-directed, lifelong learning skills; and
• become effective collaborators

The objective of the workshop is to help participants understand and apply the principles and methods of PBL in their coursework. Participants will learn to evaluate their teaching perspectives as educators, develop strategies for facilitating learning, use problems as triggers for learning, as well as understand how to conduct holistic assessment.

Course Format

The workshop will be conducted using principles of PBL, with a focus on collaborative team-based learning. Participants can look forward to dynamic exchanges between their peers and their facilitator as they embark on an experiential, hands-on approach to learning about PBL.
