Course

• Professional regulations
• Performing Venepuncture Safely
• Principles of infection, Prevention and Control
• Care of blood samples, incorporating transfer to lab
• Complications of venepuncture

On completion of the course:

• Understand the responsibilities of caring for patients having venepunture
• Critically discuss the policy and procedure for safely performing venepuncture in your organisation
• Discuss the principles of infection prevention and control relating to performance of venepuncture
• Discuss the safe transfer of blood samples to the lab
• Demonstrate awareness of the complications of performing venepuncture

Assessment Format:

• Q&A
• Practical Demonstration
• Each participant is required to undergo clinical supervision and competence assessment in performing venepuncture as per each organisations policy.

Accreditation

Award An Bord Altranais (Nursing Board). Successful candidates will receive a National Standardised Certificate of Competence Achievement.
