    The Preparatory Course for Pearson LCCI in Private Secretary's Diploma combines a range of mandatory and optional subjects to allow learners to comprehensively demonstrate their knowledge, skills and ability in this area.

    Entry Requirements

    To be eligible for admission, you must:

    be at least 16 years old at the time of application
    have a standard of business English equivalent to LCCI IQ English for Business Level 2.
    Learning Outcomes

    Business Administration Level 3

    The aims of this syllabus are to enable candidates to develop:

    an understanding of administration and organisation
    knowledge of administration systems and procedures
    understanding of a range of business services and management support
    Business Principles and Practice Level 3

    The aims of the qualification are to develop candidates’ knowledge and understanding of:

    the nature of economic activity and the internal and external environment and constraints in which businesses operate
    national and multinational forms of businesses and their impact on the local economy
    how businesses are functionally organised and managed in relation to corporate culture, image and identity
    the different aspects of operational and financial management of a business
    strategic planning and the frameworks, models and strategies that may be used in strategic analysis and implementation
    business performance measurement and the frameworks and practices that may be used to improve performance.
    Text Production Level 3

    The aims of this syllabus are to enable candidates to develop:

    proficiency in transcribing a variety of business documents from printed and handwritten
    copy using a typewriter,word processor or computer
    competence in producing business documents to a mailable business standard
    English for Business Level 2

    The aims of this syllabus are to enable candidates to develop the ability to:

    write apt and accurate English suited to the stated purpose
    understand and write English using formats that are current and common in business communication
    adopt the tone, form, layout, content and composition appropriate to the requirements of a given situation
    understand spoken and recorded Business English at the defined level
    participate in conversations
    Practical ICT Skills Level 3

    This qualification aims to equip candidates the ability to:

    demonstrate competency in IT Applications
    develops understanding and practical ability across the key Level 3 areas of software applications in Word Processing, Presentation Software, Spreadsheet, and Database
    apply these in a modern business context.
    Progression Opportunities

    Candidates who achieve Pearson LCCI in Private Secretary's Diploma may progress to the BTEC HNC Level 4 and HND Level 5 qualification.
    Assessment

    Assessment objectives

    The examination will assess the candidate’s ability to:
    demonstrate the need for effective work practices, administration systems and procedures
    show awareness of the importance of accurate and timely information and effective business communication
    identify appropriate suppliers of equipment and services and after sales care
    identify appropriate equipment and services for given situations
    plan business meetings, events and travel
    Coverage of Syllabus Topics in Examinations
    The examination will consist of one question from each topic area.

    Examination Format
    The format of the examination is as follows:

    ŸThe time allowance for the examination is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
    ŸCandidates will be required to complete 4 tasks from a choice of 5. There will be a task from each of the 5 syllabus areas.
    ŸAll tasks carry equal marks.
    ŸCandidates will be provided with a scenario giving them their job title and employer details.
    ŸThe tasks will be presented as 5 separate ‘in-tray’ exercises. Each task will simulate a task which could ordinarily be given in a real business situation. Tasks may be presented in various forms and there will be clarification of the requirements set out beneath each task.
    ŸMark allocation for individual sections of the task will be shown on the examination paper.
    Answer Formats

    Unless otherwise requested, candidates will be asked to provide answers in one or more of the following formats:

    ŸShort reports to include appropriate headings
    ŸForms, notices and lists. Simple form design or completion of a form may be required
    ŸLetters, memos, faxes and e-mails. Any acceptable business style will be accepted. Letterheaded paper will not be required.
    ŸCandidates may produce their answers on a word processor or computer but questions requiring form filling will need to be completed by hand.
    Mark Allocation
    A positive marking approach is used.

    Graduation Criteria

    Successful candidates will be awarded the Pearson LCCI in Private Secretary's Diploma based on the achievement of the percentages and grades below:

    How to Apply

    Local students refer to Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and foreigners who hold a valid pass other than a Student Pass, for example, dependent pass, social visit pass, work pass, etc.

    International students refer to foreigners who hold a valid Student Pass issued by Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

    Step 1
    Attend and acknowledge pre-course counseling service from BBS staff or authorised education agents.

    Step 2

    Copy of NRIC / Passport
    Copies of all educational certificates and transcripts
    Proof of English language proficiency
    Proof of employment history (if any)
    One passport-size photograph
    Note: An official translation is required if documents are not in English
    Step 3
    It takes 2 to 7 working days to process your application.

    If your application is successful, you will receive an Offer of Admission letter together with the following documents

    Advisory Note to Students
    Student Contract
    Step 4
    If you wish to accept the offer, you must complete, sign and send back 1 copy of the Advisory Note to Students and the Student Contract.

    If we do not receive your completed and signed documents within the timeline stated in your Offer of Admission letter, it will be assumed that you do not wish to accept the offer and the offer will be deemed withdrawn.

    Appeal Against Rejection
    If your application is rejected, you can submit an appeal in writing to the Academic Manager/Principal within 7 working days from the date of rejection to have the outcome of your application reviewed by the Academic Board.

    You will be notified about the outcome of your appeal within 7 working days from the date of appeal. The decision of the Academic Board is final. If your appeal is unsuccessful, we may recommend that you pursue an alternative course of study.

    Student Pass

    New Application for Student Pass
    If you are an international student, you must apply for a Student Pass to study full-time in Boston Business School. You must submit your application to Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) through the Student Pass OnLine Application & Registration (SOLAR+) system at least two months prior to course commencement date. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks to know the outcome of your application. You are not required to be present in Singapore while your application is being considered. If approved, you would receive an in-principle approval letter (IPA) for Student Pass and a single-journey entry visa to enter and stay up to 30 days in Singapore.

    To collect your Student Pass card, you must visit ICA and bring along the following documents:


    In-principle approval letter from ICA

    SOLAR+ e-Forms

    Medical report

    Passport

    Embarkation/disembarkation card

    One recent passport-size photograph

    Duly completed security bond form and a security deposit in the form of banker’s guarantee, cashier’s order or paid for by NETS (if required).

    Renewal of Student Pass
    If you require an extension of the Student Pass to continue the same course in Boston Business School, you must submit a renewal application to ICA at least 2 weeks prior to the expiry of the current Student Pass.

    Cancellation of Student Pass
    You are required to surrender your Student Pass for cancellation within 7 working days from the date of cessation or termination of your study.

    The School will submit your application for cancellation of Student Pass via SOLAR+.

    Basic documents required for student pass cancellation:


    Student Pass card

    Passport.

    Important Notes to Student Pass Holders
    International students must abide by the following rules and regulations under which the Student Pass is issued by ICA:


    The Student Pass is issued to you for the purpose of studying in a particular course with BBS.

    You must carry your Student Pass at all times.

    It is the Schools responsibility to inform ICA if you fail to attend classes for a continuous period of 7 days or more without valid reason, or where your attendance falls below 90% in any month of the course without valid reason, or if you have completed the course or wish to terminate your studies with the School. ICA will cancel your Student Pass under any of the above mentioned circumstances.

    You are strictly prohibited from working in Singapore, even if it does not involve any payment to you.

    You must strictly observe all laws, rules and regulations of Singapore.

    You cannot be adopted by any Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident while being a Student Pass holder.

    You cannot be married to a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident while being a Student Pass holder.

    You are not allowed to overstay in Singapore after the Student Pass has expired, unless with written approval from ICA.
