Portrait Photography Level 5 Component Award module (5N1376)

This course is suitable for individuals with a basic technical and artistic knowledge of photography who wish to focus this knowledge on photographic portraiture with the intention of receiving a FETAC Level 5 qualification.

Students will study the work of well- known portrait photographs and make a scrapbook of pictures they like and wish to emulate.

Students will produce a workbook of material relevant to portraiture

Students will produce a small portfolio of portraits (12- 18) of at least size 10x8.

Students will undertake a photographic studio skills test.

Digital Photography FETAC Level 5 Component Award (5N4340)

This module is a general photography module where students using a digital camera must complete a small number of technical exercises such as demonstration of effective use of Shutter Speeds, Apertures, Composition, and Colour. Students then undertake a photographic project on a specific subject (such as portraiture) using a digital camera. The module requires that some of the pictures taken must be altered or enhanced using Adobe Photoshop (or similar). The module however is a photography module rather than a computer based one.

This course is practical and will involve students doing some computer based work, some studio and some outdoor photography. Therefore some of the classes will be held outdoors, including two Saturday mornings around Dublin city.

Participant Criteria:

• A basic technical and artistic grounding in photography.
• A 35mm Digital/SLR camera, a tripod and flash (or access to same for the duration of the course).
• Students must be prepared to work on projects outside class time.
• Students will be required to buy books value €60 at start of course
