My classes focus on teaching easy and delicious meals and snacks based on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans,nuts,fish,low-fat dairy,lean meat and beneficial fats.We will learn how food works within our bodies and the benefits food has on our life and well being. We'll share tips for saving time, cutting costs and having funmaking tasty, healthy food that you and your family will love!

Lesson 1 - Fats Healthy Heart    

Week 1  

Make sense out of all those different types of fats and oils which types are heart healthy and those that are not. This will cover the effects BAD fats have on your overall health & well being, and will also cover Omega 3,6,9 foods, what they are and how to incorporate them into your diet.

Week 2

In this lesson there will be a cooking demonstration on healthy fats and cholesterol lowering heart healthy meals and how we can incorporate them into our breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Lesson 2 - Low GI Cooking

Week 1

This lesson will explain the different sources of carbohydrates available to us in our diet, and the effects they will have on our bodies’ health In this module, weight management will be covered by explaining the GL (Glycemic load) content of food and how it is essentially broken down and stored within our body.

Week 2

This lesson will include recipes and a cooking demonstration on foods that are packed with slow-releasing energy which keeps you fuller for longer, helps manage weight and stabilise energy levels. They’ve been selected based on their use of ingredients which are considered low, or low-to-medium GI as noted on the GI index. The recipes are also a good source of fibre and protein, have not been overly refined or processed and make use of cooking methods which do not increase the overall GI value of the dish.

Lesson 3 - Healthy Meals on a Budget

Week 1

Spend less time making dinner and more time enjoying it. This lesson covers healthy eating on a budget and will also cover how to read your food labels and how not to be tricked by advertisements. It will also cover the effects of added preservatives and colourings on your body and mind.

Week 2

This lesson will cover a cooking demonstration on healthy budget meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including how to add flavours without preservatives. Quick-tip preparation methods and recipes included.

Lesson 4 - Cooking with Herbs and Spices

Week 1

Food is always better when properly seasoned. You’ll enjoy cooking a lot more once you’ve mastered the herb and spice basics. The food will taste better, smell better, and impress your friends/family/co-workers. We will cover the seasonings I keep in my kitchen and use frequently. Herbs and spices are not only useful for adding flavor and depth to food, but are alos being researched for their uses in promoting good health. Learn how to use these herbs and spices in everyday cooking and learn their medicinal benefits.

Week 2

A culinary evening using the information covered in Lesson 1 about herbs and spices. Cooking demonstration on how to make sauces from scratch. Quick-tip preparation methods and recipes included.

Lesson 5 - Nutrition for Children

Week 1  A healthy diethelps children grow and learn. Italsohelps prevent obesity and weight-relateddiseases,suchasdiabetes. Learnhow togive yourchild anutritious diet and learn about your children’s nutrient requirements. In this module, brain food for children will also be covered which will help with their memory and concentration levels.

Week 2  This module will cover cooking demonstrations on easy to prepare nutrient-packed homemade meals and snacks. It will also provide recipes and fun ways to include fruit and vegetables in your child’s diet.
