This module aims to provide the learner with the skills, knowledge and competence to understand the composition of food and how food affects an individual’s health and personal well-being

This module can be used as an elective towards the Level 5 Award in Healthcare Support.

Programme Aim:

At the end of the course the learner will be able to:

• Familiarise the learner with the composition of food
• Promote an awareness of the nutritional content of food
• Understand the relationship between health and nutrition
• Examine eating habits
• Be familiar with the nutritional needs of different groups of people
• Examine the energy values of the different food types and the factors that affect the energy requirements of an individual.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of Level 4 certificate standard of education. Strong interest in the provision of quality care in a healthcare setting.
