The Masters in Special Educational Needs (MSEN, 90 credits) is an optional second year for graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs (60 credits) in St Patrick’s College who wish to progress to the Masters register.

The programme is also open to graduates of the Professional Diploma in Special and Inclusive Education (30 credits). Graduates of this programme are required to complete an additional two modules before transferring to the Masters register.

The aim of this second year is to develop teachers’ knowledge and skills in analysing, critiquing and applying research literature in the area of special education and in carrying out research relevant to children and young people with special educational needs. The programme consists of two modules and a thesis. One module focuses on research methodologies and one addresses curriculum and pedagogy for special educational needs and current issues in special education.

Minimum Entry Requirements

• Graduate of St Patrick’s College Graduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs.
• Graduate of the Professional Diploma in Special and Inclusive Education who completes an additional two modules before transferring to the Masters register.
