Do you enjoy being around children and want to inspire the next generation of young learners? The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care provides comprehensive training in designing, implementing and assessing engaging programs for children from birth to twelve years that align to legislative, regulatory and National Quality Framework compliance.

You will learn how to plan care routines, develop a deep knowledge of children’s holistic development and manage all aspects of early childhood administration. Through the support of experienced trainers and extensive Industry placement you will gain comprehensive knowledge of regulatory authorities, providing children with a safe and healthy environment, working in partnerships with families, supporting children with additional needs and building effective teams. This course also includes specialised units to develop skills in working with children from six to twelve years in school aged care.

Entrance requirements

• Australian Year 12 equivalent with a pass
• Relevant senior employment experience in industry will be considered.

English language proficiency

• A minimum IELTS overall score of 5.5 (Academic)
• A minimum TOEFL score of 530 for paper examination; 179 for computer based and 71 for internet based.

Special admission requirements

• You must have a current Working with Children Check and a current National Police Check (both in Australia and your home country)
• Applicants are required to complete a questionnaire/interview – contact International Student Services for details.
• Applicants should be physically fit, enjoy being with children, have patience, understanding, energy, adaptability and willingness to take responsibility.
• Students who accept an offer of a place must provide evidence of having commenced an immunisation course against Hepatitis B and must be fully immunised against Rubella and Tetanus. An immunisation against Hepatitis A is also advisable.

What employment opportunities will I have?

From 1st January 2014 fifty percent of educators required to meet the relevant ratios in early childhood services must have, or be actively working towards an approved Diploma Level education and care qualification. This course will provide you with this qualification and employment opportunities as a Diploma Level Educator in long day care, occasional care, family day care, sessional services, preschools and kindergartens, early intervention services, neighbourhood houses, Australian migrant education program services, mobile services and other specialised services.
