The Dasman Center Education Department will offer the following Diabetes Education Courses which have been designed to be adapted to eet with the requirements of the AADEEach course will consist of three consecutive levels which will be offered alternately in English and rabic. Students are expected to attend all three courses to obtain a comprehensive understanding of Diabetes which is so prevalent in the egion.

Week 1

Introduction to Diabetes1

 History, Signs and Symptoms, Pathophysiology, Epidemiology, Diagnosis, Blood glucose monitoring, ietary Aspects, Insulin Resistance, hysical activity, Diabetes Therapies (OHA and Insulin)Practica – blood glucose monitoring, A1c, specific urine tests, log books, case studies, njection devices, injection technique

Week 2 

Introduction to Diabetes 2

  Short term complications including hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, Hyperosmolar nonketotic comas, sick days, ketoacidosis, surgery, rauma, self management, Pregnancy Practica – ketone testing, case studies

Week 3

Introduction to Diabetes 3  

Long term complications F neuropathy, PVD, cardiovascular disease, nephropathy, retinopathy, sexual dysfunction – male / female, sychological aspectsPractica – Microalbuminuria testing, cholesterol testing, blood pressure, retinal screening, case studies
