The Design Thinking course is designed for senior decision makers. We know that time is precious. The course has been designed to bring maximum impact in minimum time. It runs over three days.
Day 1: Design Thinking
You will learn how to identify unmet customer needs, and how run quick experiments at low cost to test ideas and de-risk your next project. Day 1 is an exercise in which participants experience a full design sprint from idea to prototype. It prepares leaders to apply this approach to concrete problems within their organisations.
Day 2: customer-centric innovation
Learn how to engage with customers to discover their frustrations and desires. Learn how to draw empathy maps and create user personas to inform your choices. Stepping in to the shoes of a customer is the first step toward designing a better customer experience.
On Day 2 you will acquire tools to do this in a structured way that will inform your innovation choices. You will gain an entirely new insight in to the experience of users who interact with your organisation or its product or service by mapping the entire customer journey from start to finish for specific personas and touch points.
Day 3: Market fit and business model innovation
Explore lean start-up methodologies that are disrupting business. Day 3 will focus on value proposition design, fine tuning your service or product to cater to unmet customer needs. It will also focus on the business model canvas, which provides a framework for you as a leader to step out of the day to day operational mind-set and consider the macro picture: how might I experiment with my entire business model?
After the course: network and tools in exclusive Members Area
Access to password-protected Members Area at Toolkit.ie. This contains tools and materials to apply your learning within your organisation on your projects. The Members Area also contains a community space where course participants to keep in contact and provide mutual support once they have completed the course.
Who is leading the Design Thinking course?
The lead instructor is Dr Johnny Ryan. He is co-founder of FRAM Labs, and was Executive Director of The Innovation Academy at UCD. Previously he was the Chief Innovation Officer of The Irish Times, and an associate on the emerging digital environment at the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge. His most recent book is on the reading list at Harvard and Stanford. His writing on innovation has appeared in BusinessWeek, Fortune, The Irish Times, and NATO Review. He is a sought after keynote speaker, represented by the London Speakers Bureau.
