• Barge carrier construction and operational features
• Trends in container ship developments and their impact on ports.

Course Objectives:

This Unit is designed:

• To outline the basic construction, features and facilities of a typical cargo ship.
• To review the vessel types used to carry containers in international trade.
• To describe the characteristics of the five main types of container-carrying vessels.
• To discuss the effects of ship construction on how containers are handled and stowed, on the equipment used and on operating procedures.
