The aim of this course is to instruct lawyers in creating effective opening statements to be used at trial. This course is beneficial for lawyers and law students who intend to go into trial practice or lawyers who are new to litigation. During this course, students will learn what an opening statement consists of and why it is used. They will also be instructed on the preparation and presentation opening statements. Students will learn the differences in presentation of an opening statement to a Judge versus a Jury. Finally, I will provide some strategic tips to improve the effectiveness of opening statements.

Claim CLE Credit for course completion in the following jurisdictions:

1. Alaska Attorneys - claim 1.75 general CLE credits toward your 12 credit yearly requirement.

2. Arizona Attorneys - claim 1.75 general CLE credits toward your 15 credit yearly requirement. Per Arizona regulations, I must disclose the following: "The State Bar of Arizona does not approve or accredit CLE activities for the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Requirement. This activity may qualify for up to 1.75 hours toward your annual CLE requirement for the State Bar of Arizona, of which 0 hour(s) are professional responsibility".

3. Delaware Attorneys - claim 1.7 general CLE credits toward your 24 hour bi-yearly requirement.

4. Mississippi Attorneys - claim 1.7 general CLE credits toward your 12 year yearly requirement.

5. Missouri Attorneys - claim 2 general CLE credits toward your 15 hour CLE requirement. Please be advised that this course qualifies as self-study in Missouri which is limited to six credits annually.

6. New Hampshire Attorneys - claim 101 minutes of general CLE credits toward your 12 hour yearly requirement. NHMCLE does not approve or accredit CLE activities for the NH minimum CLE requirements. The provider believes that this course meets the requirements of NH Supreme Court Rule 53 and may qualify for 101 minutes towards the annual NH MCLE requirement. New Hampshire attendees must self-determine whether a program is eligible for credit and self-report their attendance.

7. North Dakota Attorneys - claim 1.75 general CLE credits toward your 45 hour tri-yearly requirement. North Dakota does not pre-approve self-study courses. Attorneys who seek credit in North Dakota must report credit as self-study.
8. Vermont Attorneys - claim 1.75 general CLE credits toward your 20 credit bi-yearly requirement.
