This programme is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge skills and competence to support individuals with intellectual disabilities who present with challenging behaviour. It is learner centered, interactive and designed to ensure that students can apply their learning once they are in an environment which requires them to deal with individuals presenting with challenging behaviour.

Programme Aim:

At the end of the course the learner will be:

• To Understand the concept of “challenging behaviour”
• To Acquire knowledge of the underlying causes of challenging behaviour
• To Become familiar with the model of Positive Behaviour Support as an approach to supporting individuals with learning disability who present with challenging behaviour
• To Develop an ability to gather appropriate information about an individual presenting with challenging behaviour, which can be used in the development of a Behaviour Support Plan

Entry Requirement

Leaving cert or equivalent qualification. Relevant life/work experience also considered
