Our Certificate in Tertiary Preparation assists students in developing the academic skills needed to succeed at the Diploma and Bachelors level. It is useful for school leavers or students who have taken the vocational strand of learning but would now like to further their studies. The course is also valuable for those who have spent time away from the academic environment for family, career or personal reasons and who wish to upgrade their skills before undertaking a university degree.

Entry Pathway

Business & Arts:

•  courses required if minimum performance equals 3 subjects in GCE ‘O’ levels at C6 or better including English or ITE Nitec  GPA 2.5 or equivalent (domestic students only)
•  courses required if mature age or academic performance below threshold or if students are international

Engineering:

•  courses required if minimum performance equals 3 subjects in ‘O’ level at C6 or better including English & mathematics or ITE Nitec GPA 2.5 or equivalent (domestic only)
•  courses required if mature age or academic performance below threshold or if students are international

Classes will be conducted in workshops, with a student to faculty ratio of 1:25. The assessment methods used in this program vary from course to course and may include essays, reports, presentations, quizzes and group work.

What will I learn?

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

• Develop an understanding of analytical and critical thinking skills required to undertake diploma or degree studies
• Enhance quantitative skills and knowledge
• Enhance writing skills and knowledge and establish an understanding of referencing requirements and student academic integrity
• Create a framework for critical reflection pertaining to learning styles
