What is this course about?
The aim of this course is to develop the student’s understanding of psychology from the perspective of atypical or abnormal development or behaviour.
This course is an ECTS 10 credit level 7 module of the BA (Honours) in Applied Social Studies (Professional Social Care)
This course should not be considered as a complete programme in Psychology but an introduction to the subject with an emphasis on social and community care settings.
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Describe and analyse what causes psychological disorder problems and learning difficulties;
- Describe the current treatments for psychological health problems;
- Evaluate causes and therapies for challenging behaviour issues;
- Describe and analyse therapeutic interventions;
- Critically review how the experiences of people with psychological health problems compare with the academic models of disorders;Analyse and evaluate the ethical issues involved in therapeutic interventions;
- Analyse different methods used in psychological analysis.
What are the minimum entry requirements?
Potential students must have completed Psychology 1 & 2.
All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
