What is this course about?

This course aims to ensure students understand the role of the Project Manager and the project management function within an organisation together with the outward impact project management has on all aspects of the business. The student will learn to use MS Project software as a project planning tool.

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

• Understand the strategic importance of project management in the business environment;
• Understand the interaction between project management and other functional areas of business;
• Understand the role that quantitative techniques can play as a decision making tool, as well as their limitations;
• Understand the role of the project manager including the skills required to plan, monitor and control a successful project;
• Use Microsoft Project software to create, track, manage and close a project.

What are the minimum entry requirements?

Students are required to be computer literate.

This course is suitable for both graduates and non-graduates. Potential students could be in the public or private sector or working in community services. The course consists of lectures plus IT laboratory work using the MS Project software. The course will include both a group project and an individual project which will require the student to accurately develop a project plan. All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
