What is this course about?
This course aims to introduce learners to key microbiological concepts and methodologies used in the pharmaceutical and medical devices industries with due regard to health and safety, cGLP and cGMP.
Completion of this module would exempt the applicant from an equivalent module in a Level 7 Degree in Pharmacy Technician Studies.
- Explain the nature of micro-organisms and outline the relevance of microorganisms in industrial settings,including their elimination from clean environments;
- Explain the factors that control the growth of microorganisms in the environment and industrial settings and demonstrate the efficacy of physical and chemical methods of sterilisation/preservation/ disinfection;
- Outline the requirements of cGMP,quality assurance and control in the manufacture of sterile products;
- Describe the features of a clean room used in the manufacture of sterile products;
- Competently demonstrate and validate the correct aseptic techniques, behaviours and monitoring for use in a clean environment using SOPs.
What are the minimum entry requirements?
Applicants are required to hold a Level 6 Pharmacy Technician qualification or equivalent. All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
