This module aims to provide the learner with the skills, knowledge and competence to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care settings.

It is an elective module towards the Level 5 Award in Healthcare Support.

Programme Aim:

At the end of the course the learner will:

• Demonstrate good work practices in the provision of holistic care for older people
• Gain an understanding of the concept of the ageing process.
• Be able to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care settings.
• Enhance the quality of life of older people
• Analyse the roles of the healthcare assistant in promoting positive attitudes of ageing
• Discuss the issues related to an older person with mental illness or dementia and of living with chronic illness
• Explore a range of specific services that are available to older people.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of Level 4 certificate standard of education. Strong interest in the provision of quality care in a healthcare setting.
