Course Detalis
This premier business programme has the following distinctive elements, which combine to constitute a world-class education in Asian business:
Part I (September to December, in UCC)
- Students spend the first three months of the programme at the College of Business and Law at UCC, where they are introduced to the fundamentals of Asian business practice, develop language and interpersonal skills and a deep cultural understanding of the region in partnership with UCC’s distinguished School of Asian Studies. While in UCC, students start work on their Business Research Report, working closely with their academic mentor, while also developing the relationship with their placement company and business mentor.
Part II (January to March, at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)
- Students spend the next three months in NTU (Nanyang Technological University) in Singapore, one of the world’s leading universities, and home to the region’s top business school. At Nanyang, students gain exposure to the latest teaching and practice in Asian business, covering Marketing in Asia, Strategic Management, Human Resource Management and Accounting and Finance for an Asian business environment.
- Students continue their contact with their sponsor company, in preparation for their placement and the Business Research Report, and, where possible, meet with their placement mentor.
Part III (April to September Placement in Asia and Final Workshop in NTU, Singapore)
- The third stage of the programme is a five-month work placement, in Asia, where students get an opportunity to apply their learning to a challenging ‘real-world’ project. During their placement, students will complete their Business Research Report, which is an important applied learning outcome from this programme. Students continue to receive supervision from their academic mentor in UCC, throughout their placement, and make a mid-placement presentation to their academic mentor on their progress.
On completing all three phases, students come together for a final workshop, where they present their Research Reports to an invited audience.
Assessment
Course assessment will be in the form of class assignments, exams, essays, presentations and a significant Business Research Report, based on the five-month company placement. There will also be various workshops and seminars, to help students develop inter-personal and communications skills, which require mandatory attendance.

UCC was established in 1845 as one of three Queen’s Colleges - at Cork, Galway and Belfast. These new colleges theyre established in the reign of Queen Victoria, and named after her.
Queen's College, Cork (QCC) was established to provide access to higher education in the Irish province of Munster. Cork was chosen for the new college due to its place at the centre of transatlantic trade at the time and the presence of existing educational initiatives such as the Royal Cork Institution and a number of private medical schools.
The site chosen for the new college was dramatic and picturesque, on the edge of a limestone bluff overlooking the River Lee. It is associated with the educational activities of a local early Christian saint, Finbarr. It is believed that his monastery and school stood nearby, and his legend inspired UCC’s motto: ‘Where Finbarr Taught, let Munster Learn.’
On 7 November 1849, QCC opened its doors to a small group of students (only 115 students in that first session, 1849-1850) after a glittering inaugural ceremony in the Aula Maxima (Great Hall), which is still the symbolic and ceremonial heart of the University.
The limestone buildings of the Main Quadrangle (as it is now known) are built in a style inspired by the great universities of the Middle Ages, and theyre designed by the gifted architectural partnership of Thomas Deane and Benjamin Woodward. The iconic image of UCC, it is set in landscaped gardens and surrounds the green lawn known to all as the Quad.
