Fiber Optics Technician (FOT) course is an advanced level course designed for all individuals who are at the level of a fiber optic installer, but wish to expand their knowledge of communication fiber optics. Fiber Optic Technicians are expected to obtain advanced knowledge of fiber optic concepts that will allow them to be involved with designing, configuring, installing, and maintaining fiber optic systems. Technicians will be able to test and troubleshoot Local and Wide Area Networks with various faults. A Fiber Optics Technician has a full understanding of inside and outside plant optical fiber, connectors, and splice performance characteristics as described in TIA-568-D (1&3), ITU-T , ITU-T and Telcordia GR-326 and can use these performance characteristics to create a worst case power budget for a fiber optic cable plant. The course material prepares a student for taking the IPATS examination. Each student will be given a manual to keep and their own fiber optic tool kit to use during training. We utilize the latest fusion splicing and ISP & OSP test & certification equipment from leading fiber optic industry manufacturers.

A focal point in the course is to offer a general, easy to understand, approach to fiber optics testing standards with little theory and considerable hands on activities. This comprehensive course explains the variety of testing standards, equipment and technological approaches used in fiber network testing and splicing and how to choose among them. This 85% hands on course explores the overall spectrum of testing and maintenance of single and multi-mode fiber optics networks and provides a detailed overview and demonstration of various pieces of equipment used in testing and maintenance. For years there has been a need for that faster internet connection. People rely on the internet for almost everything, information/research, streaming movies from popular services like netflix or hulu, online gaming, even with mobile phones there is a need for that faster connection. Fiber Optics is the answer! Our old copper based cabling simply wont support the speeds and data capacity needed this day in age. Big companies such as AT&T/Verizon & even the Government have invested in updating our old copper cabling to Fiber Optic Cabling.
