A Forman is entitled to make sure that projects are being undertaken, and controls the required quality as well as the respect of scheduled dates and initially provided budget.

As technical and professional coordinator, a Forman is part of a study office staff, who participates to the conception of projects, elaboration and execution of plans, calculation and measurement of quantity and estimations. A Forman can, as well, set the technical and administrative specifications, participate to the choice of materials, organization and planning of the building site.

As a field worker, a Forman makes sure that the site is well installed, finds technical solutions, and solves problems that occur daily on the site during the building process. He also deals with suppliers, foresees preventive security measures, notes down a daily report about control, expenses and labor needs for workers, as well as for materials and equipment. He holds site-meeting too.

As a manager or chief of enterprise, a Forman has his autonomy that certainly could vary with the size, activity or importance of his enterprise.

In a small enterprise, a Forman can be totally in charge of the project contract. Whereas, if he works for a large one, he will be in charge of one part of the project contract.
