    Course details

    At least 17 years old as of 1st January of the examination year.
    Applicants should meet one of these additional requirements:
    Completed GCE O Level with Pass in English and Mathematics OR
    Pass the BMC GCE 'A' Level Entrance Test
    Admission is subject to approval by the management. Application which does not meet any of the additional requirements shall be treated on case-by-case basis.
    Module

    A. H1 MATHEMATICS (Subject Code: 8864)

    The syllabus provides a foundation in mathematics for students who intend to enrol in university courses such as business, economics and social sciences. It covers Functions and Graphs, Calculus, and Statistics. The main focus of the syllabus will be the understanding and application of basic concepts and techniques of statistics. This will equip students with the skills to analyse and interpret data, and to make informed decisions.

    B. H2 MATHEMATICS (Subject Code: 9740)

    This module prepares students adequately for university courses including mathematics, physics and engineering, where more mathematics content is required. Further, it aims to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills in students. Students will also learn to analyse, formulate and solve different types of problems, and learn to work with data and perform statistical analyses.

    C. H2 HISTORY (Subject Code: 9731)

    H2 History is a contemporary study of regional and international developments in the twentieth century. This module enables students to appreciate Singapore's role in the region and the larger international community. Through a thematic comparative and issues-based approach, students are able to identify patterns, recognise change and continuity, and understand the historical forces that have shaped our present.

    D. H2 CHEMISTRY (Subject Code: 9647)

    This syllabus is designed to place less emphasis on factual material and greater emphasis on the understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles. This approach has been adopted in recognition of the need for students to develop skills that will be of long term value in an increasingly technological world rather than focusing on large quantities of factual material which may have only short term relevance.

    E. H2 MANAGEMENT OF BUSINESS (Subject Code: 9756)

    This module basically offers students to acquire understanding of the nature and scope of business and its role in society that will enable for them to develop interests in business-relevant industries.

    F. General Paper (Subject Code: 8807)

    General Paper aims to develop in students the ability to think critically, to construct cogent arguments and to communicate their ideas using clear, accurate and effective language. General Paper encourages students to explore a range of key issues of global and local significance and provides students with a good foundation to thrive in a fast-changing world. At the end of the course, students should have a broader understanding of the world, and be ready to meet the challenges of higher education and the workplace of the future.

    G. H2 Physics (Subject Code: 9646)

    The syllabus has been designed to build on and extend the content coverage at 'O' level. Students will be assumed to have knowledge and understanding of Physics at 'O' level, either as a single subject or as part of a balanced science course.

    H. H1 ECONOMICS (Subject Code: 8819)

    The syllabus is intended to provide the basis for a broad understanding of economics and the ability to use evidence in making rational arguments in economic context and understand the roles of various economic agents.

    I. H2 ECONOMICS (Subject Code: 9732)

    The syllabus is intended to provide the basis for a broad understanding of economics. Specifically, the syllabus aims to develop in candidates:

    an understanding of fundamental economic principles, theories and concepts, and of the methods of analysis used by an economist;
    the ability to use the tools of economic reasoning to explain, analyse and resolve economic issues, and evaluate policy decisions;
    the habit of reading critically, from a variety of sources, to gain information about the changing economic activities and policies at the national and international levels;
    the ability to use evidence in making rational arguments in economic context and understand the roles of various economic agents.
    J. H1 Physics (Subject Code: 8866)

    The syllabus has been designed to build on and extend the content coverage at O level. Candidates will be assumed to have knowledge and understanding of Physics at O level, either as a single subject or as part of a balanced science course.

    K. H1 CHEMISTRY (Subject Code: 8872)

    Candidates will be assumed to have knowledge and understanding of Chemistry at O Level, as a single subject or as part of a balanced science course. This syllabus is designed to place less emphasis on factual material and greater emphasis on the understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles. This approach has been adopted in recognition of the need for students to develop skills that will be of long term value in an increasingly technological world rather than focusing on large quantities of factual material which may have only short term relevance. Experimental work is an important component and should underpin the teaching and learning of Chemistry.

    L. H1 HISTORY (Subject Code: 8814)

    The H1 History is a contemporary study of key historical events and issues that have shaped the international order in the second half of the twentieth century. It offers valuable insights into the complexities of international relations which is integral to making informed judgement of current global developments. The issues-based approach emphasises the importance of identifying patterns as well as change and continuity, seeing connections between ideas in History, and placing them in a wider context which will enable students to have a critical understanding of twentieth century world events.Method of Delivery

    Classes are conducted using the following methodologies: Lecture, Interactive Discussion, Small Group Dynamics

    Award Criteria

    Students shall be awarded a certificate of attendance upon meeting the minimum 75% attendance requirement for local students (part-time) and 90% for international students and local students (full-time).

    Grading System

    Grades reflected on the Academic Transcripts are upon 100%, wherein the following equivalents are being used: 0-49%= Failed; and 50%-100=Passed.

    Assessment Information

    Two (2) Internal Examinations are conducted in an Academic Year namely: Mid-Year and Preliminary Examination. On the other hand, Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination which is conducted in Singapore annually in October and November. All students are expected to register for their GCE A Level Examination online at www.seab.gov.sg.



    Expected date of release of Assessment result

    Assessment results for Internal Examinations (Mid-Year and Preliminary Examinations) are released to students within four (4) weeks of the last assessment for that examination cycle. While the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination Results are released in February/March through the Singapore Examination and Assessment Board (SEAB).
