    Course details

    This course is for adult learners who need English to:

    • handle basic survival needs for very routine social demands;
    • understand simple phrases containing familiar vocabulary, spoken slowly with frequent repetition;
    • interpret simple directions, schedules, signs, maps and menus;
    • fill out forms and write short, simple notes and messages based on familiar situations;
    • handle jobs and/or training that involve basic oral and written instructions and diagrams.

    Course Outline

    The course integrates Reading and Writing skills and covers the following:

    1. Writing job application and resumes
    2. Taking effective telephone messages
    3. Writing effective email messages, letters and reports
    4. Creating survey forms
    5. Describing a situation
    6. Writing persuading advertisements
    7. Writing supporting statement, organizing passages
    8. Paraphrasing and summarizing information

    Requirements

    Trainee must pass the Pre-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) to determine their workplace literacy & numeracy level

    How will I be assessed?

    • All trainees for Workplace Literacy (WPL) are required to sit for a Pre-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) assessment to evaluate their language proficiency levels before they are recommended to the different levels for class.
    • The CAT assessment is computer-based and consist of four components - Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
    • After the completion of the training, all trainees are required to sit for a Post-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) assessment to assess their improvements Statement of Attainment (SOA) from Workplace Development Agency (WDA)

    Will I recieve a certificate of completion?
