Course details

The modules under WSQ Diploma in Retail Management are developed for retail professionals at the managerial level, who have a high degree of autonomy, possess responsibility in decision-making, and require knowledge and skills to perform a wide range of duties in a dynamic retail environment.

These include: 

  • Store / Outlet Managers 
  • Assistant Sales / Sales Managers 
  • Senior Merchandising Managers 

To qualify for a Diploma in Retail Management, inpiduals must successfully complete: 

  • 7 core modules, and 
  • 2 elective modules

  • Lead and Manage Work Teams 
  • Manage Finance for Retail Operations 
  • Manage Marketing Mix 
  • Manage Merchandise Presentation and Visual Display 
  • Manage Quality Service Operations 
  • Retailing and the Economy 

Elective Modules

  • Buy Merchandise 
  • Contribute to the Buying of Merchandise 
  • Control Inventory 
  • Develop/Co-develop Store Security Policies and Procedures 
  • Develop and Implement Creative Concepts for Visual Merchandising 
  • Manage an Online Retail Business 
  • Manage and Maintain Store Facilities 
  • Manage Customer Relationships (CRM) in a Retail Environment 
  • Manage Promotional Activities
  • Manage Retail Productivity 
  • Manage Sales Operations 
  • Manage Staff Training and Assessment 
  • Set up a Retail Business 

A WSQ Statement of Attainment will be awarded upon successful completion and assessment of each training module.

Entry Requirements 

  • GCE 'O' level Credit in English and Mathematics or Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) score: Level 6 for Reading, Listening and Numeracy, and
  • Currently working in retail sector or unemployed, and have or had at least 3 years of retail working experience in supervisory or managerial position, in addition to meeting the admission requirements; or
  • Currently working in non-retail sector or unemployed, and hold or held Professional / Managerial / Management Executive (PME) position for at least 3 years, in addition to meeting the admission requirements
